Lets hypothesis for a moment;
Lets say that cavemen still exist today, in modern times. What would he think
or do, if you (a modern man) handed him (the caveman) the latest "cutting edge" HT,
and you told him, "Here, you can talk to other people, faraway".
First of all, he can't understand you, you don't speak his "Low IQ, basic
language", second, he can’t read, so he can’t understand the manual, third, he's
afraid to talk to other cavemen, that he can't see. Fourth, the HT is shiny, and
makes noise (beeps, buzz's), when he touches it. He grunts with glee, at his new
toy (ripping it from your hand). The caveman then keys the PTT button, and
grunts, and squeals into it. From somewhere, out there, grunts & squeals come
out of the speaker, in response to him. The caveman grunts & hoots with delight,
and continues this "conversation" for hours. Then much to his dismay, the HT
goes silent (dead battery), he gets angry, smacking it, but no response. Then the
caveman takes a stone knife out and "punches" a hole through the HT, shoves a
piece of animal gut through the hole, and ties it together, and drapes it over
his neck, then grunts at you, hands you a few smelly animal fur pelts, then turns
and walks away.
Can anyone see the analogy of amateur radio in this ??
